For our PIXELS competition, members can submit an image to the theme which is then judged externally where a gold, silver or bronze can be awarded. At the end of the year, the overall winner is announced.
The themes for the 2024 competition are:
Month | Theme | Theme Definition |
---|---|---|
January | Open | Show us your best underwater shot. Any image that has been taken underwater, but not in an aquarium, is allowed. |
March | Contrasting Colours | Using contrasting colours in your photos can create a dynamic and visually appealing effect that captures the viewer’s attention. We want to see photos using contrasting colours to add visual interest by defining the subject, creating depth and dimension and enhancing mood and emotion. For more information on using colour contrast in photography click here |
May | Look At Those Eyes | Having the subject look straight down the lens gives a feeling of direct eye contact when the image is later viewed. Just as in real life, eye contact is more arresting than a lack of eye contact – it captures your attention and is a form of communication in itself. |
July | Behaviour | Photos featuring marine life engaged in some sort of behaviour other than just sitting there or swimming around. We’re after photos showing fighting, feeding, reproduction, symbiosis (mutualism, commensalism, or parasitic) or any other type of behaviour. |
September | Crustaceans | Show us your crusty critters; crabs, shrimps, lobsters, copepods, isopods, barnacles, etc. |
November | Repeating Patterns/Shapes | The repetition of lines, shapes, tones, or colours can create interesting images. We want to see photos featuring repeating patterns and/or shapes. |
The PIXELS Competition has its own set of rules which can be viewed here Pixels Rules.
Entries must also meet the WAUPS Competition Rules and Image Size Guidelines which can be viewed here.
