Critique Course

WAUPS is hosting a Critique Workshop.  This will be held on three Saturdays afternoons, 29 July, 12 and 26 August, 2pm till 5pm at Team Digital in East Perth. Brent Acie will be running the workshop.  The cost is $125.

What is critique?

Critique is repeatable process for assessing images, and can go something like this….
1. What made the photographer stop to take this shot?
2. What is the photographer trying to convey?
3. What are the strengths of the image?
4. What are the distractions in the image?

Brent also runs the WAPF judging workshops so this workshop provides a fantastic opportunity for members to learn from someone who shows others what to look for when they are reviewing and judging images. If you are keen to learn more about the nature of critique and how to apply this form of review for your own images, then sign up for the course by emailing

We have a few spots remaining and it is just exclusive to WAUPS and WAPF club members.

Open Portfolio winner

Congratulations to Amanda Blanksby, winner of the 2017 Open Portfolio. The judge’s comments were that each of the images in the portfolio reaches a very high technical standard in wide angle photography. Even though five out of six show a jetty landscape and its schooling population, the portfolio as a whole is not boring, with outstanding lighting and colours. The resulting images, taken at different spots and conditions, make this portfolio nicely balanced and an inspiration for all macro lovers to go out and try the wider view.

WAUPS would like to thank the ongoing sponsor of the Open Portfolio, The DiveTub. Cheers guys!

Novice Portfolio winners

A big congrats to the winners of the 2016 Novice Portfolio Competition.

First place went to Emma Burdett with this beautiful blue portfolio.  The judges comments on this portfolio were, “great use of blue backgrounds and complimentary colours to help pop the images off the screen, this entry really stands out with bright, dynamic images when looking at it on a large screen.”

Well done Emma!  See the other winners and full gallery here.
